Have I mentioned how much I love a writing prompt? Or how much I adore fall? And when I can combine those two things, well, swoon.
Below is my submission for the KIDLIT FALL WRITING FRENZY, which took place in 2019, in the before times. This clever contest is co-hosted by Kaitlyn Leann Sanchez and Lydia Lukidis. I highly recommend you take a stroll around their blogs.
This candy-corn-sized entry—inspired by Teja Prajapati’s “Two Crows” image—won me a copy of Danielle Dufayet’s delightful, FANTASTIC YOU. There were so many falltastic entries, I highly recommend you grab a cup of your favorite beverage and have a read-through.

GHOULash Delight (87 words)

Beware of the sky
With the pumpkin-spice glow
That whispers your name
When the autumn winds blow
Two silhouettes now
But do worry, there’s more
When crow follows crow
There’s a murder in store
Ghost wisps chill the air
And the witches they toil
The recently dead
Clamber out of the soil
Twelve strikes of the clock
Time to cook-up our stew
A GHOULash delight,
All we’re missing is…YOU
Beware of the sky
With the pumpkin-spice glow
That whispers your name
When the autumn winds blow
